‘I Worked on Clarkson’s Farm — And This Is What Jeremy Clarkson Is Really Like’

Millions of viewers think they know Jeremy Clarkson from the chaos, arguments and sarcastic humour seen on Clarkson’s Farm. But according to Harriet Cowan, the man behind the cameras is very different — and her honest comments are now surprising fans.

The Unexpected New Face at Diddly Squat
When Kaleb Cooper temporarily stepped away from Clarkson’s Farm, many viewers wondered whether anyone could survive the pressure of working alongside Jeremy Clarkson.

Then Harriet Cowan arrived.

The 25-year-old former nurse quickly became one of the standout personalities of the season after spending 11 weeks living in a caravan on Diddly Squat Farm and helping Jeremy manage the land. What began as a temporary replacement soon turned into one of the most talked-about dynamics on the show.

Viewers were drawn to Harriet’s calm confidence, practical farming knowledge and ability to fire witty comments straight back at Clarkson without hesitation. But while fans saw plenty of chaos on screen, Harriet says life away from the cameras felt very different.

And according to her, Jeremy Clarkson was nothing like some people expected.

“He Was Lovely”
Speaking about her experience after filming wrapped, Harriet described Clarkson in surprisingly warm terms. Rather than the loud television personality many viewers are used to seeing, she said he became more of a “father figure” during her time on the farm.

She explained that he was supportive, welcoming and easy to work with throughout the experience — something that may shock people who only know Clarkson from his more controversial public image.

Harriet also admitted that reactions from the public were intense once people discovered she had appeared on the show. Some people openly told her they loved Clarkson, while others admitted they couldn’t stand him.

But according to Harriet, Clarkson simply doesn’t seem bothered by the strong opinions surrounding him. And in many ways, she appeared to admire that attitude.

For fans, the comments offered a rare glimpse behind the scenes — revealing a softer and more grounded side of the presenter that rarely becomes the centre of attention.

More Farmer Than TV Star?
Harriet also revealed that before joining the series, she wasn’t particularly familiar with Clarkson’s previous television career. She knew who he was, but admitted she had never really followed his car shows growing up.

Instead, what interested her was the farming itself.

And after spending weeks beside Clarkson at Diddly Squat, she came away believing he genuinely cares about making the farm work. According to Harriet, he was eager to learn and determined to improve — qualities she says reminded her of many real farmers she has known.

That may ultimately explain why Clarkson’s Farm continues to connect with audiences. Beneath the humour and television drama, viewers are starting to see something more genuine.

And thanks to Harriet’s honest comments, fans may now be looking at Jeremy Clarkson a little differently than before.
