Jeremy Clarkson has blasted a Welsh councillor on social media amid a spat over climate change. The 65-year-old presenter told one of Cardiff Council’s cabinet members that he hoped people in Wales decided for the councillor to “not have a job anymore” when the time for re-election comes around.

Clarkson has gained a whole new legion of fans in recent years following the launch of his hugely popular farming series, Clarkson’s Farm, on Prime Video. With the help of Kaleb Cooper, the series shows the chaos of running his Diddly Squat farm in Oxfordshire, showcasing the highs and lows of the profession and advocating for farmers across the country.

The spat with Cardiff councillor Dan De’Ath, who is cabinet member for climate change, started after the the former Top Gear presenter posted on X about the latest series of Countryfile. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter

Councillor De’Ath criticised this comment, resulting in the TV personality questioning why people would have elected the councillor.

Clarkson said: “Has anyone else noticed how much better Country File has got in recent years? Tonight’s show is proper. No stupid people hugging trees and humming. Just proper farming stuff.” (sic)

However, he quickly followed that up with another post saying: “No wait. They’ve brought climate change into it. As you were.”

Councillor De’Ath then responded to Clarkson, arguing that Clarkson’s Farm showed the effect climate change could have on farms.

He went on to suggest that it was not surprising the presenter wouldn’t care about this, claiming that Clarkson owned it “mainly as a tax dodge”.

Clarkson replied: “God almighty. Someone elected you? Let’s hope that next time around the good people of Wales cause you to not have a job anymore.”

Councillor De’Ath has not responded to Clarkson’s comment.

Clarkson has previously hinted that there could be at least two more series of Clarkson’s Farm, with series five due to air later this year.

He confirmed there would “definitely” be a sixth instalment, revealing: “We’ll definitely do six – Amazon want to (do series six) and I want to. I’ve got a good idea for six.”

The presenter has also dropped hints about a possible seventh series. He continued: “I said I’ll stop doing them when there are no more ideas. But I’ve got two quite good ones, so we’ll do six and then we’ll see..”
